Year 5 Writing for Selective course prepares students for the selective school writing test by teaching them exactly what they need to know. Students learn to identify the correct writing form, plan effectively, and use the right structure for every task.

They practise a wide range of text types such as stories, speeches, diaries, letters, advertisements, and newspaper pieces, so they understand that different tasks require different approaches. They also learn to consider purpose, audience, and ideas to make their writing clear, organised, and impactful. Through the program, students will:

  • Create strong openings, clear bodies, and effective endings
  • Plan, organise, express, and refine ideas with purpose
  • Practise under time pressure using CBT skills, typing, timing, and feedback
  • Build confidence early — Start in Year 5. Be ready for Year 6.

With structured planning tools, feedback reports, and guided practice, students learn to use the right form and make their writing strong. This course equips them with the skills, structure, and strategy needed to enter Year 6 fully prepared for Selective School writing tasks.
